Hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical part which is widely used in many types of the construction equipment or automotive and transportation industry, such as the excavators, dozers, back hoes, cranes, graders and drum brakes and so on. In fact, various types of the hydraulic cylinder have been seen here and there. And they have done their contributions to the development of the entire industrial process.

This mechanical fitting is usually used to generate linear force and motion from hydraulic fluid pressure. As a result, most types are with the design of double-acting. Such design refers to that the pressure may be applied to either the piston or rod end of the cylinder to generate either extension or retraction force, respectively.

Considering about the situations requiring the hydraulic cylinders, they would have some common grounds. Typically speaking, the relative system needs large forces. And this force can be got by the flowing fluids. Using this mechanical fitting can be environmental to the whole industrial process. Take the hydraulic pump for example. This small fitting is able to power a large displacement cylinder. As a result, the received force is turned into the large required force.

As for the wide general applications and excellent functions, the structure of hydraulic cylinder seems to be significant. Basically speaking, it consists of a smooth-bore round tubular cylinder, a freely moving piston with several polymer seals, a highly polished round piston rod and a rod support bearing along with several tight fitting seals to seal the sliding rod where it exits the cylinder.

In words, the invention of the hydraulic cylinders seems to be typically significant in the industrial development.
